Spanish Fluency through Stories

Help your teen move beyond drills and grammar charts to focus on fluency and confidence

My Approach

After years of teaching Spanish the traditional way, I realized that students learn best when they understand what they’re doing — and when the goal is not just to learn Spanish, but to use it for something meaningful.

In these one-on-one sessions, my main goal is to help students develop fluency in Spanish the same way they acquired their first language: through meaningful, natural communication — not grammar drills.

Just like babies learn to speak by hearing lots of language in context, these sessions provide comprehensible input and high-interest repetition through stories and conversation. Students absorb grammar and vocabulary naturally, as they focus on understanding and expressing ideas.

We listen. We speak. We create stories.

What students get in each session:

✓ One-on-one, personalized instruction (55 minutes, once a week)

✓ Conversation, listening, and reading activities based on engaging stories

✓ Vocabulary and grammar introduced and reinforced in real context

✓ Ongoing, natural feedback to support growth without interrupting fluency

FAQ

  • I believe we can.

When my children were between 8 and 10 years old, I witnessed how they acquired English fluently — without classes, textbooks, or formal instruction.

Their desire to understand the games and videos they were immersed in became the driving force behind their learning.

English wasn’t the goal — it was the tool.

That experience completely shifted my perspective as a teacher. I began to believe that a second language can be acquired in much the same way we learn our first: through real motivation and meaningful input.

And the more sessions I teach, the more I believe it.

  • I tried to recreate that kind of experience in my classes, but it wasn’t until I discovered the TPRS methodology (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) that everything started to come together.

Stories remove the pressure and provide the context students need to engage and get the repetition they need — without boredom.

Spanish stops being the target and becomes the path. And when that shift happens — students start to speak.

  • I don’t teach grammar in isolation — but students still learn it.

They are naturally exposed to and begin using key structures such as:

    • Ser and estar

    • Preterite and imperfect

    • Reflexive verbs

    • Future and conditional

    • Subjunctive in common contexts

    • Object pronouns

    • Connectors and expressions to narrate, compare, and express opinions

All in the context of stories and conversation — not worksheets.

  • They are ideal for high school students who are just starting Spanish, as well as those who already have a foundation (from Spanish 1, 2, 3, or beyond) and want to:

    • Move past the worksheets and grammar drills

    • Speak more fluently and with confidence

    • Practice real communication in a natural, engaging way

  • If your family needs these sessions to count as Spanish credit for your teen’s homeschool transcript, I can provide additional documentation and home assignments to meet that requirement.

This service has an extra cost and is completely optional.

“The class I took helped me review topics that I had already learned, but just needed a little refresher on. Also, the way she taught everything was very clear, concise, and definitely fun!”
